Another Transfer Target Missed as Grant Joins Lincoln

|

Oxford United have missed out on another transfer target after Jorge Grant signed for fellow League One side, Lincoln City.

The Imps made the announcement yesterday, whilst Karl Robinson’s side were also looking at the player nearly three weeks ago.

The 24-year-old Nottingham Forest man hadn’t spent much time at his parent club. Loan spells with Notts County and Mansfield Town in League Two, either side of a stint with Luton Town in League One, is how the midfielder has spent his past few seasons.

Grant managed just 20 appearances for the Championship outfit and hadn’t played for the side since December 2016.

The Banbury born man looked likely to come back to his home county if Oxfordshire, but having spent much of his career in Nottinghamshire, a county that borders onto Lincolnshire, Grant opted for that move instead.

It’s another major blow in the transfer window for Karl Robinson, who is to discuss transfer proceedings with chairman, Sunrith Thanakarnjanasuth, after todays pre-season friendly at Rangers.

That said, when the U’s were looking at the midfielder, they had only signed two youngsters in Kevin Berkoe and Sam Allardyce.

Since then, Robinson has acquired Alex Gorrin from Motherwell and Tariqe Fosu from Charlton Athletic respectively.

Still, it’s a major blow for the U’s, who seem to be struggling to finalise deals with targeted transfers, as is also the ongoing case with Chris Cadden.
