Oxford United are facing a battle with Blackburn Rovers in the bid to secure Liverpool youngster Tyler Morton on loan, according to Alan Nixon.

The 19-year-old, who has made nine senior appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side, is seen as one for the future but is in need of regular game time to enhance his development.

Nixon claims that Rovers are leading the race to sign the England U20 international, who have previously seen Harvey Elliott impress at Ewood Park.

However, former Liverpool academy coach and Oxford boss Karl Robinson is willing to offer the midfielder more first-team football in the upcoming campaign.

Despite the claims from Nixon, Rich Sharpe of the Lancashire Telegraph adds that a move may be delayed due to a number of injuries in the Liverpool squad.

As things stand, Klopp is looking to hold on to Morton during pre-season but things may change before the window closes.
