Derby Midfielder A Target For The U’s

|

Derby County midfielder George Thorne is the latest transfer target for Oxford United, according to the Derby Telegraph.

The 26-year-old central midfielder struggled to feature under Frank Lampard, mainly due to injury but also spent time away at Luton Town as the Hatters won promotion to the Championship.

Thorne has been at Derby since 2014, making 66 appearances for the Championship side.

But with the Rams looking to ship a few players out of Pride Park on loan, Thorne looks likely to be one of the selected few. The midfielder is currently injured, and although it’s believed he failed a medical at the Kassam Stadium last week, it hasn’t deterred Karl Robinson from chasing the player.

He started off at West Bromwich Albion but only made nine Premier League appearances in four years. During his time at The Hawthorns, Thorne spent time on loan at Portsmouth, Peterborough United and Watford.

The midfielder has suffered numerous injuries throughout his career, but he’ll be hoping to get his career back on track with a move to the U’s.

Last week, the U’s bolstered their squad with a third signing in as many days after centre back Elliott Moore signed from Leicester City, following Ben Woodburn and Anthony Forde to the Kassam.
