Fans React: “Best Performance in an Oxford Shirt”

|

Following Oxford United’s 1-1 draw at promotion hopefuls Sunderland, fans have reacted to the performances of their players.

Tariqe Fosu scored the U’s goal, Ben Woodburn had an impressive debut and Simon Eastwood made some crucial saves, but it was a defender that impressed the most.

Rob Dickie looked solid at the back. He kept £4 million signing Will Grigg quiet, Aiden McGeady at bay and any attacking opportunities at a minimum. The 23-year-old defender was as impressive at the other end, rightly or wrongly having a goal ruled out following a foul by Jamie Mackie.

Fans were delighted with the former Reading man’s performance, and the defender could be a big player for the club this season.

Following the departure of Curtis Nelson to Cardiff City, it seemed the U’s defence would be an area of weakness. Dickie, who penned a new deal last week, has made over 50 appearances for the club since his arrival in January 2018 and was a formed a solid partnership with Nelson last season.

But the U’s were yet to replace Nelson, however, they snapped up Elliott Moore from Leicester City and it looks like he could partner Dickie this weekend as the U’s host Peterborough United.
