Fans React: U’s Drawn at Home Against Manchester City

|

Oxford United have made through to the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup for the first time since 1988.

Karl Robinson’s side saw off League One rivals Sunderland on Tuesday night, winning 4-2 on penalties after the game ended 1-1.

And this morning, the draw for the last eight took place, where the U’s welcome current holders Manchester City to the Kassam for the second successive season after the two sides met in the third round last year.

But despite being drawn against the domestic treble winners, many U’s fans have taken to Twitter to share their disappointment of the draw.

It’s an unusual position to be in as an Oxford fan. All four Carabao Cup games this season have been at home, and while that can give the U’s the advantage, Manchester City aren’t the ideal opposition.

A home tie against League Two Colchester United was a popular choice, but many supporters were looking forward to an away day at one of the top Premier League sides.

That said, the U’s have come a long way since their last meeting with the Citizens, and although Pep Guardiola has a tremendous depth at his disposal, Oxford will be hoping the home advantage could push them towards the semi-final for the first time since they won the competition in 1986.
