Findlay Speaks Out On Oxford Link

|

Oxford United target, Stuart Findlay, has spoken out about him being linked with the League One side, as reported by Kenny MacDonald in the Scottish Sun.

The 23-year-old is a target for the U’s, who would have to part with £500,000 to land the former Celtic man.

The defender netted a last minute winner as Kilmarnock beat Welsh opposition, Connah’s Quay, in their Europa League opener on Thursday.

Findlay told the Scottish Sun: “I know their manager has been speaking publicly and it’s nice to hear.

“But I’m a Kilmarnock player and I’m just over the moon to be a Kilmarnock player. Over the past two years this club have taken me from obscurity to playing the best football that I have ever played in my life and that’s got me into the Scotland international set-up as well.”

The defender has a strong connection with Kilmarnock, where he is now in his third spell with the SPL side.

Findlay began his career at Celtic, but failed to make an appearance for the Scottish champions.

During his time at Celtic Park, he spent loan spells with Greenock Morton, Dumbarton and Kilmarnock, before signing for Newcastle United in 2016 following his release from Celtic.

But time at St James Park was also limited, and he was loaned back to Killie before signing permanently for the club in 2018.

He was an integral part of Steve Clarke’s side that finished third last season, during which he was called up to Alex McLeish’s Scotland side, but is yet to make an appearance.

But the 23-year-old has represented at Scotland at every level of the youth divisions.

The U’s are looking for a solid defender to replace Curtis Nelson, who left the club to join Cardiff City, and should Findlay move south, he could be an important acquisition for the Karl Robinson’s side.
