Former Royal Joins The U’s

Oxford United have confirmed their second signing of the day after Liam Kelly joined the U’s from Feyenoord.

The 24-year-old midfielder arrives the same day as Nathan Holland, who joined earlier from West Ham United.

The former Reading man joins the U’s on loan until the end of the season having struggled for game time in Holland and as a result, has been an interest to numerous clubs.

Kelly, who watched from the stands as Oxford knocked Hartlepool United out of the FA Cup, told the Oxford Mail: “It’s nice when you have a few options, but this was the one that stood out for me the most.

“It was an easy decision to come here with where they are in the table. I just want to get in and help the team out.”

The former Reading man made more than 80 appearances in the Sky Bet Championship during his time with the Berkshire club and was part of the side that reached the play-off final in 2017 under Jaap Stam.

It was when Stam moved to Rotterdam that Kelly followed, but following his departure in October, his game time was limited.

With injuries to a number of key midfielders, Kelly’s arrival will be a major boost for the squad and will add further depth.
