Laced with a few ex Oxford United players I took in a trip to watch Brackley Town in their Blue Square North semifinal match against Altrincham.

In fact it was only a few years back I watched Oxford United take on Altrincham in the Blue Square Premiership on the 10th April 2010. Oxford United won on the day in front of a crowd of 1,356 fans of which 368 were OUFC fans.

The teams on the day were:

Altrincham 4-4-2: Coburn, Smith, Young, Williams, Brown, Doran, Densmore, Danylyk, Lawton (Senior 57 mins), McAliskey (Carden 69mins), Little (Denham 57 mins).

Subs Not Used: Saunders, Welch.

Booked: Senior.

Oxford Utd 4-4-2: Clarke, Batt, Creighton, Wright, Tonkin, Francis Green (Chalmers 73mins), Chapman, Bulman, Deering (Sandwith 80mins), Constable, Midson (Matthew Green 63mins).

Subs Not Used: Turley, Day.

Booked: Bulman.

Goalscorer: Constable 53mins

Three years on and I’m stood watching Billy Turley who was on the bench for the yellows on that day. But also part of the Brackley squad are Eddie Odhiambo, Jefferson Louis, Tom Winters & Marvin Robinson who have all played for the yellows.

From the Altrincham team only two are still playing that being Stuart Coburn & now captain Shaun Densmore.

BRACKLEY TOWN
(Red ) 1. Billy Turley (capt), 2. Gary Mulligan, 3. Curtis McDonald, 4. Eddie Odhiambo, 5. Tom Sharpe, 6. Ryan Austin, 7. Izak Reid 8. Brett Solkhon, 9. Glenn Walker, 10. Jefferson Louis, 11. Tom Winters. Subs: 12. Eddie Nisevic, 14.Owen Story, 15. Steve Diggin, 16. Marvin Robinson, GK. Laurie Walker

ALTRINCHAM
(Aquamarine shirts and socks, grey shorts) 1. Stuart COBURN, 2. Shaun DENSMORE (capt), 3. Matt DOUGHTY, 4. Carl RODGERS , 5. Gianluca HAVERN, 6. Scott LEATHER, 7. James LAWRIE, 8. Simon RICHMAN, 9. Duncan WATMORE, 10. Damian REEVES, 11. Nicky CLEE. Subs 12. Danny HALL, 14. Pat LACEY, 15. Jake MOULT, 16. Ryan BROOKE, 18. Tony McMILLAN (gk)

With Brackley trailing 2-1 from the first leg it could have been a tense affair for the Brackley contingent, but it was quite the reverse. The fans came out in support and the team played with a sense of belief.

On the 4th minute Jefferson Louis swivelled and out muscled the Altrincham defence to put the home side in front and level the tie 2-2 on aggregate. Just 22 minutes later I witnessed Izak Reid, brother of former Oxford player Levi slotting home Brackley`s 2nd and the party was really starting for the Brackley fans.

In the second half Glenn Walker hammered home in the 54th minute to ensure the win and put Brackley into the final against Halifax on Sunday the 12th May.

So if you want a football fix next Sunday Brackley is the place to be and you get to see the great Billy Turley bellowing out at his players again.
