Oxford United are dealing with a significant number of injuries at the moment. It comes at a time where the club are playing twice a week now until the climax of the season. As a result, an in depth squad is crucial with a vast amount of games but the U’s are becoming more depleted by the week.
Firstly, on loan midfielder Marcus McGuane has been ruled our for the rest of the season. The 22-year-old picked up a thigh injury during a 2-0 win over Bristol Rovers in January but despite edging closer to a return, the midfielder has suffered a significant setback which has ruled him out indefinitely.
James Henry has been struggling with a hamstring injury over recent weeks but has now been ruled out by U’s boss Karl Robinson. The Oxford manager believes that the club are “not expecting him back before Easter.”
Striker Sam Winnall has also been handed another injury setback. The summer arrival has managed just 16 appearances this season as a result of injuries and will be out again after picking up an ankle injury in the U’s draw against MK Dons.
The U’s were then handed a double blow on Tuesday night when Elliot Lee and Sam Long both picked up injuries in a goalless draw against Peterborough. Lee was replaced before the break after picking up a knee injury while Long was forced off just after the restart with a hamstring injury.
