‘Hopefully, we get off to a good start’ – Moore Looking for a Fresh Start

Oxford United defender Elliott Moore believes the break in fixtures has given the U’s a chance for a fresh start.

Six defeats from their opening nine league games alongside the postponement of three fixtures has halted any momentum. If the U’s win against Crewe Alexandra this evening then it will be back to back league wins for the first time this season following their 3-1 victory over Rochdale two weeks ago – a game where Moore netted twice.

But now, the defender is ready to get going after what has been a much-needed break. Speaking to the Oxford Mail, Moore said: “With the squad coming back to full fitness, people are fighting for places now, which we haven’t had for a long period because of the injuries.

“Now we’ve got a lot of games coming up in a short period. There is a line under (the season so far) and we begin again now. Hopefully, we get off to a good start.”

One area the centre back is keen to see improvements is in defence. The U’s had previously gone 20 games in all competitions without keeping a clean sheet, but that run came to an end in the Football League Trophy with John Mousinho and Nico Jones in defence.

Now, Moore is looking to keep their first clean sheet of the league season and push up the table.

He added: “We’ve been leaking goals and we have to correct that. It starts from the forward players and ends with us and the goalie.

“The most important is the three points, but after that, it’s a clean sheet, so we’re desperate to get that.”
