Oxford United midfielder James Henry has been grateful for the gap in the fixture list. The 31-year-old looks to have recovered from a knee injury ahead of the U’s home game with Crewe Alexandra this evening.

With such a short break following last seasons playoff final defeat and the beginning of pre-season, Henry’s knee has been working overtime.

The midfielder has been playing with strapping on his knee to ease of the injury, while rest is also a key part of recovery.

Now, Henry feels he is the most comfortable he has been all season. Speaking to the Oxford Mail, the midfielder said: “I was playing in quite a bit of pain, just managing to get through.

“It’s completely settled now and I’m raring to go and get back on-song.”

With the U’s making such a slow start to the new league season, Henry is aware that his performances have been part of the problem. The midfielder also highlighted the change of personnel as a key attribute.

He added: I wouldn’t say I’ve played my best football. I’m still adapting in terms of the way my whole side changed.

“It’s gone from me, (Rob) Dickie and Cadds (Chris Cadden) to me, Sean (Clare) and Ells (Elliott Moore).

“It’s just understanding how I want to play and they want to play.

“There have been some good signs and there have been moments. We just need to be a bit more consistent.”
