Oxford United goalkeeper Jack Stevens has signed a new deal with the club. The 23-year-old, who was out of contract in the summer, has extended his stay until 2024.

Having come into the first-team fold in December, the shot-stopper has been one of the U’s standout performers. From 17 games, he has kept eight clean sheets and conceded just 14 goals.

Speaking about his new deal, Stevens said: “We’ve been in conversations for a while, but it’s all been sorted now.

“I’m happy to be here for the foreseeable future and play as many games as I can.

“This club is close to my heart, I’m a local lad and hopefully I can get promotion.”

Having come through the club’s academy, Stevens has been number two to Simon Eastwood for the past five seasons and had to be patient before making his breakthrough.

It first came in April 2019 after Eastwood was sent off in a league game against Charlton Athletic. Stevens finished the game before playing the following match at Shrewsbury.

The goalkeeper had been limited to cup games before his introduction this season.

U’s boss Karl Robinson added: “I think it is brilliant news for the club. Jack has done so well and has so much promise.

“We know there were clubs at the highest level looking at him and I am sure that will continue because he has such a fantastic attitude and wants to keep working hard and learning his trade all the time.

“He fits what we are doing perfectly: a young player with a very bright future who loves playing for the club and wants to help us keep moving forward.”
