Oxford United have seen the departure of Jordan Obita to Wycombe Wanderers on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

The 27-year-old only joined the U’s in November following his release from Reading but has joined the Championship side for an undisclosed fee.

Since his arrival, Obita made 15 appearances for Oxford, scoring once in a 2-0 win over AFC Wimbledon. He completed 90 minutes on just two occasions.

Speaking to the clubs’ official website, U’s boss Karl Robinson said: “Jordan is an excellent pro and we enjoyed having him here.

“Wycombe made an offer which met our valuation and for Jordan, it offers that little bit of security because he was only on a short-term contract. We wish him well for the future.”

Obita was one of 13 players out of contract in the summer so the fact Oxford have managed to get a transfer fee is relatively good business.

It also frees up wages and a space in the squad for some further additions. The U’s already brought in 21-year-old centre back Luke McNally on a three-and-a-half-year deal but, as he is under the age of 22, he doesn’t take a squad place.

However, it does leave the U’s short in cover at left-back. Although Rob Atkinson has played there for Eastleigh and Sam Long has covered this season, Josh Ruffels remains the clubs only recognised left-back.
