The U's News

Just where will Chris Cadden end up?

|

The Chris Cadden saga continues, and it’s still unsure whether or not the Scottish international will end up signing for Oxford United.

It has now been reported by Scott Burns at the Daily Record that the 22-year-old is an interest to MLS side, Columbus Crew.

But, if the midfielder does sign for the American outfit, it looks likely that he’ll end up being loaned out, due to the current amount of overseas players on the clubs roster.

This could then reopen the door for the U’s who have been targeted with the Motherwell player for some time now.

The U’s had a £450,000 bid rejected back in 2017, but agreed a compensation deal with the SPL side last month, thought to be in the region of £270,000.

Another thing is that fellow League One side Sunderland have shown interest in the Scot. But what we do know is that the midfielder, despite having a compensation deal agreed, is yet to decide where he sees his future.

It has been a frustrating situation from an Oxford fan point of view. It looked odds on that Cadden would be heading down to the Kassam Stadium, but there are clearly some underlying issues behind the deal that we’re not yet aware of.

If Cadden decides to ply his trade elsewhere, it could be a loss for Robinson and his side, particularly after fellow Motherwell midfielder, Alex Gorrin, has already joined the U’s.

Another dilemma, something Robinson has come under criticism from before, is his publicity when talking about interested players. The talk could have put Cadden off, or worse still, made other clubs aware of his current situation.
