59 days since Pep Clotet was dismissed by Oxford United owner Darryl Eales we have a replacement!!

Firstly a new owner Sumrith Thanakarnjanasuth (Tiger) who then set about the task of brining his own man in. That man being Karl Robinson who was appointed on Thursday this week after leaving Charlton Athletic on the same day.

The build up to the appointment saw lots of names linked to the job however the Wow factor was revealed at a press conference.

So who is the man at the helm of the U’s Karl 37 born in Liverpool was on the books at Everton and Blackpool in their youth academies, but never made it as a pro. However he did play at a decent level for Caernarfon Town, Bamber Bridge, Marine, Oswestry Town, Rhyl, Kidsgrove Athletic, Prescot Cables, St Helens Town, Alsager Town and Warrington Town between 1999 until 2007.

He was known as a powerful striker/midfielder. After his playing days he decided to go into coaching firstly with the Liverpool youth academy and later Blackburn Rovers.

In 2010 when Paul Ince left the Dons he was promoted as manager where he remained until 2016. He managed 346 matches with a win rate of 42.5%

2010/11 League One 5th 77 pts
2011/12 League One 5th 80 pts
2012/13 League One 8th 70 pts
2013/14 League One 10th 60 pts
2014/15 League One 2nd 91 pts
2015/16 Championship 23rd 39 pts

In Nov 2016 he left the Dons for the Addicks who had been relegated at the same time as the Dons. He took charge of 74 matches with a win rate of 36.5%

2016/2017 League One 13th 60pts
2017/2018 League One 8th 52 pts (after 36 matches)

He likes to play an attacking style of football traditionally 4231. Let’s hope his stay with the U’s is good one. He certainly has a good track record at league one level.
