League One Preview: Oxford United v Barnsley – Team News, Form and Prediction

|

Oxford United will be looking to build on Saturday’s draw at Accrington when Barnsley visit Grenoble Road.

That point at the Crown Ground means the U’s are unbeaten in nine games but five of those have ended level.

Barnsley currently sit fourth in the table and have won their last four league games. They have also won six of their last seven in all competitions.

Josh Murphy made his long-awaited return from injury against Stanley while Yanic Wildschut also made the trip but didn’t feature.

Luke Thomas, Matty Wolfe and Jordan Helliwell are all unavailable for the Tykes through injury.

While the visitors may be flying high in the league, goals isn’t something they’ve been associated with. Midfielder Josh Benson and striker Devante Cole are the joint-top scorers with six while former U’s loanee Herbie Kane has provided four assists. However, Barnsley have been solid in defence and boast the joint-lowest amount of goals conceded with 16 in the league.

Oxford are without a win in the last three meetings between the two sides, which includes a 4-0 loss on the opening day of the 2018/19 season and a 3-2 defeat in the JPT Final at Wembley. The last home meeting, and only previous encounter at Grenoble Road, ended in a 2-2 draw.

Predicted line-up: Simon Eastwood, Ciaron Brown, Stuart Findlay, Elliott Moore, Djavan Anderson, Marcus McGuane, Cameron Brannagan, Lewis Bate, Marcus Browne, Billy Bodin, Matty Taylor.

Prediction: Oxford United 1-3 Barnsley
