League One Preview: Oxford United v Shrewsbury Town – Team News, Form and Prediction

|

Oxford United will be looking to bounce back from Saturday’s defeat against Plymouth when the U’s welcome Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday night.

Karl Robinson’s side suffered a first home league defeat of the season against the table-topping Pilgrims while the Shrews picked up just a third league win of the campaign against MK Dons.

Steve Cotterill’s side have suffered eight league losses this season – the joint highest in the division – and have scored the third-lowest amount of goals with just ten from 13 games.

Matty Taylor netted his fourth goal of the campaign against Plymouth but top-scorer James Henry, who has added five, missed a couple of opportunities last time out.

Daniel Udoh is the Shrews’ top scorer with three while Birmingham City loanee Sam Cosgrove and midfielder Luke Leahy have added two each.

Josh Daniels returned to the matchday squad against the Dons but Aaron Pierre remains a doubt, with Josh Vela and Ryan Bowman still sidelined.

Karl Robinson’s side are unbeaten in their last six meetings against the Shrews, winning five. The U’s won 3-2 on the road last season, with the same scoreline coming on the final day of the curtailed 2019/20 season also. Robinson’s side won 4-1 at home last time, with Shrewsbury’s last win at Grenoble Road came on Boxing Day in 2014.

Predicted line-up: Jack Stevens, Steve Seddon, Jordan Thorniley, Elliott Moore, Anthony Forde, Alex Rodriguez Gorrin, Cameron Brannagan, Herbie Kane, Gavin Whyte, James Henry, Matty Taylor.

Prediction: Oxford United 3-0 Shrewsbury Town
