Manager and Defender Pen New Deals

Shortly after announcing Anthony Forde as the U’s fifth summer signing, Oxford fans were boosted by the news that defender Rob Dickie and manager Karl Robinson have extended their contracts at the club.

Dickie, who was heading into the final year of his contract, has penned a twelve-month extension at the club, whilst Robinson has extended his deal until 2022.

It’s been a productive 24 hours for the U’s, who signed Liverpool youngster Ben Woodburn on loan yesterday, and have also been linked with Leicester City defender Elliott Moore and Burnley forward Dan Adjie.

Dickie’s extension will hopefully avoid the U’s putting themselves in a similar position as they did with Curtis Nelson, who left the club to join Cardiff City following the expiry of his contract.

Dickie, who has gone on to make over 50 appearances for the club since his arrival from Reading in January 2018, told the Oxford Mail: “The club came to me and wanted to extend my deal.

“I was quite happy too, to be honest. I think it’s a club that’s moving forward and I’d like to help it do that. I like the manager and the way he plays.

“Obviously when you sign a new contract you weigh up a lot of things and I decided it would be a good thing for me.”

Meanwhile, the manager’s extension will keep him at the Kassam for another three seasons his previous contract was due to run out next summer.

There are still a few details to finalise, but the former MK Dons man will be pleased to put pen to paper after what has been a difficult time at the after his arrival in March 2018.

Replacing Pep Clotet, who was sacked two months before Robinson was appointed, was after a difficult period in which the U’s had dropped from 10th to 15th.

And although he kept them safe, the following season the club flirted with relegation for large parts of the season, but a nine-game unbeaten run towards the end of the campaign secured a mid-table finish.
