Managers React as Oxford Defeat Doncaster

Oxford United stretched their unbeaten run to eight games in all competitions as the U’s eased past Doncaster Rovers.

Another James Henry brace and a seventh goal of the season for Cameron Brannagan sealed yet another win for Karl Robinson’s side.

It’s now three successive 3-0 home wins in League One, and Robinson believed that the performance was better than when his side hit Lincoln City for six without reply last month.

When asked the question, he told the Oxford Mail: “One hundred per cent, because I see Doncaster as one of the best teams in the league.

“I watched them play Portsmouth (last week) and they were outstanding. The result was emphatic when you look at the quality of the opposition.

“We’ve had some great results, but against a team like that it was a really big statement.”

Despite the solid performance and continuation of this incredible run, Robinson felt his side still weren’t perfect and could have shown better.

He added: “But I still thought we were poor in the second half. I thought we were off it.

“It’s not so much the goals we could have scored, it’s more the opportunities we gave to the opposition through our own stupidity.

“Maybe I’m being harsh, but we lost our shape a bit and they found gaps. But what an unbelievable victory and there’s a lot more to come.”

Meanwhile, his counterpart Darren Moore admitted his side were up against “good team.”

Donny, who headed into the game level on points with the U’s, would have felt they could have got something from the game before kick-off, but Moore’s men failed to register a single shot on target.

Moore said, as reported by the Oxford Mail: “Goals change games and they got them at the crucial times. We were found a little bit wanting in that respect.

“Credit to Oxford. We wanted to try to come here and stop that momentum. We wanted to get back to winning ways, but in the end, they were a little bit too strong for us.

“It was a tough day for us to take, but we’ve got to learn from it. Oxford are on an incredible run, they’re a good team, but in areas, I thought we needed to be a little bit better.”

The U’s find themselves just one point off the playoffs in 8th place after the win, but travel to Rotherham United next weekend who are just one point behind Robinson’s side.
