March Round-Up – A Month of Inconsistencies

In March, inconsistency began to creep in at Oxford United as Karl Robinson’s side only picked up 11 points from a possible 24.

While draws at home against Peterborough United and Charlton Athletic were adequate, defeat on the road to lowly Northampton Town in their penultimate game of the month wasn’t.

Despite a couple of defeats against top sides in Hull City and Blackpool, the U’s recorded three impressive wins from their eight games. Firstly, Oxford exacted revenge against rivals Swindon Town, winning 2-1 at the County Ground. Then, following the defeat at table-topping Hull, the U’s romped to a 3-0 victory over Doncaster Rovers – their first win over a top-six side this season. Robinson’s side ended the month with another team above them, running out 2-1 winners over Michael Appleton’s free-falling Lincoln City.

Despite a month of inconsistencies, the U’s still find themselves just one point off the playoffs. While they were unable to capitalise in their game in hand against the Cobblers, wins over promotion rivals have kept the U’s in touching distance.

From the eight games, Oxford managed three clean sheets, scored seven and conceded seven.
