Mark Sykes has today completed a move from Oxford United to Bristol City, joining on a free transfer.

The 24-year-old midfielder, who was out of contract in the summer, joins fellow Irishman Joel Cooper out the door at Grenoble Road.

There had been interest from the Robins for some time, with City boss Nigel Pearson in attendance when the U’s beat MK Dons in League One.

Sykes made a total of 137 appearances for the club, including 30 as a sub, and scored 12 times since his arrival in January 2019.

This was his most productive season to date, with the midfielder scoring eight times and laying on eight assists for the U’s.

However, his productivity dropped drastically after the January transfer window after a number of clubs reportedly showed interest.

He joins former U’s defender Rob Atkinson at Ashton Gate but another former Oxford player in Callum O’Dowda has been released from the club.
