Whilst the majority of the senior squad stayed back to take part in some extra training, the starting eleven was an extremely youthful one.
Jack Stevens began in goal, with Kevin Berkoe and 33-year-old Tony McMahon, the only senior player, at full-back.
Nico Jones was partnered with Sam Allardyce in defence, with skipper Jamie Hanson and Aaron Heap in the centre of midfield.
Fabio Lopes and Kyran Lofthouse began on the wings, with Mark Sykes in behind Owen James upfront.
The U’s inexperience showed early on, and the National League side showed their capabilities, taking advantage of defensive errors to score twice.
First, Williamson struck home from eight yard’s, before the striker added a second, wrong-footing Stevens after a mistake by Berkoe.
Oxford tried to make a go of it but they lacked a cutting edge, failing to test Eastleigh goalkeeper, Max Stryjek. Jones had a header from a corner pushed away by the man between the sticks, before Hanson saw his long range effort easily saved.
The U’s felt they should have been awarded a penalty before the break after Heap was shoved to the floor, but nothing was given.
But Eastleigh continued to punish Robinson’s side, and added a third seven minutes in the second half when Boyce outmuscled severel United defenders to head home.
Berkoe saw an effort tipped over by Stryjek, before denying Lopes fifteen minutes from time. At the other end, Stevens was needed to deny substitute, Sam Smart, as the host’s finished strongly.
We knew Robinson would field an inexperienced side, but this highlighted that the squad severely lacks depth.
It will be an important week for the manager, who will need to pursue transfer targets in order to be fully prepared for the new season.
