Match Report: Pre-Season Friendly -Thame United 0-2 Oxford United

|

Oxford United made it back to back wins in pre-season as they netted twice without reply at Thame United.

Second half goals from Gavin Whyte and Rob Hall gave the U’s the win against a resilient Thame side.

Simon Eastwood replaced Jack Stevens in goal, whilst trialist Jon Guthrie started at the back with Rob Dickie. Kevin Berkoe continued at left back, with Jamie Hanson on the right.

Alex Gorrin was partnered in the middle of midfield with Aaron McCready, whilst Kyran Lofthouse and another trialist, Elliott Frear, were on the wings. Whyte started up front, with Tariqe Fosu in behind.

Unlike the tie at Oxford City, the U’s largely dominated the match, but failed to make a breakthrough until the second half.

Whyte opened the scoring three minutes into the second half after substitute, Aaron Heap, was fouled in the box, netting his second penalty in as many days.

Frear had a great introduction in front of the U’s fans, set up on goal twice by Gorrin before having an effort ruled out for offside.

The 28-year-old was released from Motherwell in the summer, and certainly looked impressive in his performance at the ASM Stadium.

Second half substitute James Henry had an effort saved, before Hall struck home a peach to seal the game eleven minutes from time.

Positives from the game included performances from both trialists, aswell as the youngsters that featured. A negative was that Fosu picked up a knock, but the Oxford Mail confirmed it wasn’t a hamstring as first feared, but just tightness.
