Oxford United midfield James Henry has been nominated for August’s League One Player of the Month.

The 32-year-old has made an impressive start to the season, which includes four goals from just four league outings. Three of those goals came during Oxford’s 3-1 victory over Lincoln City as he registered his first-ever hat trick, with the other coming from the penalty spot in a 1-0 win over Crewe Alexandra.

Henry is up against Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Morecambe striker Cole Stockton and Ryan Tunnicliffe from Portsmouth. The winner will be announced on Friday.

If Henry is successful, he will be the first Oxford player since Matty Taylor back in February 2020 to claim the monthly award. Taylor was the first U’s player to pick up the prize since Ryan Clarke in January 2014.

Meanwhile, the wait for a Manager of the Month goes on. Karl Robinson has been nominated six times since he joined the club but has yet to claim the award, leaving Ramon Diaz in 2005 as the most recent Oxford manager to win.
