The Oxford United under 23 squad have a new goalkeeping coach after Scott Shearer returned to the club to join the academy set up.

The shot-stopper, who arrived at the Kassam Stadium in 2017, will assist Wayne Brown with academy duties before he steps into his first coaching role.

The 38-year-old Scot will head north of the border this week to join the sides pre-season tour of Scotland, which finalises with a match at Motherwell academy on Tuesday.

Shearer told the clubs official website: “It’s good to be back, I’m really looking forward to the challenge ahead. I know the standards the club has got and these are exciting times.

“Things are getting in place and hopefully the club can kick on once again. When you’ve got good people around you in the club it makes a big difference and working with Browny will be great for me in developing my coaching career.”

With the academy squads striving to improve, Shearer could be a useful addition. Karl Robinson has already invested in the youth squads this summer, bringing in Kevin Berkoe, Sam Allardyce and Yoav SadeYoav Sade, and adding coaching staff to the club will benefit these younger players.
