Karl Robinson has played down talks over a new contract with defender Josh Ruffels. The 27-year-old is one of several players out of contract in the summer and negotiations have been ongoing for some time.

However, speaking on BBC Radio Oxford’s Five Minutes Fans Forum, Robinson confirmed that the club were no closer to seeing the left-back commit his future.

When asked about any developments on a new contract, he said: “No. No, not yet. I don’t want to comment on that.

“Let’s Let’s just see how that unfolds in the next few weeks.”

Over the last couple of weeks, Mark Sykes, Alex Rodriguez Gorrin and Sam Long have all committed their futures to the club, along with goalkeeping duo Jack Stevens and Simon Eastwood.

James Henry is another key player that is out of contract in the summer, but unlike Ruffels, the club have the option of an additional year.

Elsewhere, Robinson was also asked if there were any developments on a move for Marcus McGuane. The U’s boss had previously stated that the club were looking to bringing the loanee back on a permanent basis.

He added: “Transfer news will be very very close to people knowing what’s going on with him.”
