Michael Appleton’s side enjoyed a tremendous season, and the win over Wycombe on the final day rounded it off in style. The U’s saw off Premier League side Swansea City in the FA Cup third round, hit four past Brentford at Griffin Park in the first round of the League Cup, and reached the Football League Trophy final, before ending the campaign with promotion to the third tier for the first time since the 2000/01 season.

Despite dominating the majority of the first half, the game was level at the break. However, defender Chey Dunkley powerfully headed his fourth goal of the season eight minutes after the restart, before Chris Maguire converted from the spot after Kemar Roofe was fouled. Oxford-born Callum O’Dowda sealed the win in stoppage time with a terrific solo effort.

Over 11,000 supporters packed Grenoble Road to witness the incredible events unfold. Although Oxford finished the season 13 points behind Chris Wilder’s Northampton Town, it truly was a memorable campaign for the U’s.
