Opinion: Henry a Critical Figure for Oxford United

|

Oxford United attacker James Henry has made a promising start to the season, and has become an integral part of Karl Robinson’s side.

Signed by Pep Clotet, the midfielder has been the U’s top goalscorer for the past two seasons. The former Wolves man netted 12 in all competitions in his first season, with 15 coming last term.

Without his goals last season, 11 of which came in the league, the U’s would have certainly been very close to suffering relegation back to League Two.

And, although his only goal this season came during Tuesday nights Carabao Cup win over Millwall, he remains a crucial player.

His link-up play with Chris Cadden on the right has been superb, and when Jamie Mackie plays up top, he brings all three players behind him into the game, and Henry benefits from that.

Last season, Robinson played the 30-year-old in the number ten role, and occasionally out wide, but this season he has featured regularly on the wing following the arrival of Ben Woodburn, but has also starred up top in the absence of Mackie and Matty Taylor.

Despite only finding the net once this season, Henry could well score over ten goals this season, particularly as all of the U’s goals during this campaign have come from midfielders and Josh Ruffels at left-back.
