Oxford United have begun talks with some of the key players who are out of contract in the summer.

Up to 13 of Karl Robinson’s squad could all leave at the end of the season for free but the club have opened negotiations, according to the U’s boss.

Jordan Obita, Alex Rodriguez Gorrin, James Henry, John Mousinho and Nico Jones all have the option of an extra year. Mousinho aside, the club are likely to activate those clauses.

Jack Stevens, Josh Ruffels, Simon Eastwood, Mark Sykes, Rob Hall, Anthony Forde, Malachi Napa and Dylan Asonganyi are also out of contract in the summer.

Speaking to the Oxford Mail, Robinson said: “We’ve already started these conversations with some players.

“Some of the players whose contracts are up we have options (to extend), so we’ll protect them from that point of view.

“I’m not overly worried, we’re quite secure.”

Ruffels triggered a one-year extension last season, while Stevens penned a new one-year deal in March. However, the future of the rest on the list remains uncertain, with many struggling for game time this season.

The number of players out of contract extends to 16 when you consider loanees Marcus McGuane, Liam Kelly and Mide Shodipo, who will all return to their parent clubs at the end of the season.
