Oxford Duo Fail to Appear During International Duty Again

Oxford United duo Ben Woodburn and Mark Sykes failed to feature for their respective nations for the second successive game.

Woodburn was an unused substitute as Wales edged past Belarus in Cardiff, while Sykes failed to make the bench again as Northern Ireland lost at home to Germany.

Neither player made the bench in their first games either as Wales edged past Azerbaijan and Northern Ireland defeated Luxembourg.

Losing the pair, particularly Woodburn, for the defeat at Fleetwood Town was always going to be tricky, but the fact that neither player featured will be a bitter blow for U’s fans.

Both players will rejoin Karl Robinson’s side as the U’s look to end a run of five league games without a win when they welcome Tranmere Rovers this weekend.

Sykes, who was made available for loan by Robinson, will be looking to integrate himself into first-team affairs, having only featured in the U’s two Carabao Cup games, scoring against Millwall, while Woodburn has already been an integral part of the squad, playing eight games in all competitions while adding one goal and two assists.
