Oxford Hopeful Of Keeping Loan Player

Oxford United are hopeful that they can reach an extension on the contract of loan player, Chris Cadden.

The 23-year-old, who joined the U’s in the summer from MLS side Columbus Crew on a season-long loan, should stay until next summer, but with the American outfit beginning their new season in March, the Scottish international could be recalled in January.

The transfer for Cadden turned slightly sour among Motherwell fans, but the U’s had agreed on a compensation package for the full-back before he joined the Crew.

Karl Robinson, hopeful of keeping hold of Cadden past his loan spell, told the Oxford Mail: “We’d like to have him here on a permanent deal.

“He was one of our main summer signings and I think people are starting to see why he was one we were really attracted by.

“What we bid for him was more than I’ve spent on any other position, it showed how much we wanted him.

“We’re very thankful to have him and hopefully we can have him for a lot longer. I don’t know (if a deal is possible), they are conversations we’ve not opened up yet.”

Cadden has made a solid start to life in League One, making ten appearances and providing three assists.

Sam Long has featured as a replacement during cup games, but Cadden has remained consistent throughout his performances.
