Oxford Keep tabs on Oldham Defender

|

Oxford United have shown interest in Oldham Athletic defender, Tom Hamer, according to Journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter.

The 20-year-old, who has come through the Academy with the League Two club, is a popular figure at Boundary Park, but U’s boss Karl Robinson is looking to bring another right-back to the club and the youngster could be a perfect fit.

Since making his debut in 2017, Hamer has made 65 appearances for the Latics, including 28 in League Two this season.

But despite signing a new deal in the summer which will keep him at the club until 2022, the League Two outfit may need to sell a key figure to boost funds.

The full-back, who can also cover in the centre, had been linked with a move to Peterborough United and Blackpool earlier this month, but it looks like Oxford will be the successful side to sign the youngster.

The club looked to have targeted Kilmarnock defender Stephen O’Donnell, but the 27-year-old has since said he wants to remain with the SPL side until the summer.

This move however would also continue with the U’s business model when it comes to transfers, in terms of signing promising young players and bringing them up.

The U’s also signed defender Rob Atkinson from Eastleigh, but he has been loaned back to the National League side.
