Oxford Keeping Tabs on Glentoran Forward

|

Oxford United are keeping tabs on Glentoran forward Paul O’Neill, according to Irish League Podcast, The Waffle.

They tweeted during Glentoran’s Irish Cup final match against Ballymena, claiming that representatives from the League One side were at the game.

Glentoran went on to win the game – the clubs 23rd Irish Cup success – and it was an impressive display from O’Neill.

The 20-year-old opened the scoring midway through the first half. The forward switched the ball onto his left foot before firing a low drive from 20-yards.

He was substituted with seven minutes remaining with the score level at 1-1, but the Glens secured the win in the second half of extra time.

O’Neill has netted 11 goals from 24 Danske Bank Premiership games this season and has netted 14 from 43 outings for the Northern Irish side.

Deployed as a number ten that can also cover on either wing, he is another promising youngster from Northern Ireland that Oxford have scouted. If he joins, he would follow Gavin Whyte, Mark Sykes and, most recently, Joel Cooper, to make the switch to the U’s.
