Oxford Midfielder Called up for International Duty

|

Oxford United midfielder Mark Skykes has been called up to the Northern Ireland side their upcoming friendly and Euro 2020 qualifier.

Despite not featuring for Michael O’Neil’s side the last time he was called up, the 22-year-old will be hoping to make his international debut when they welcome Luxemburg and Germany respectively.

As a result, the midfielder, who was made available for loan by Karl Robinson, will miss the U’s trip to Fleetwood this Saturday, along with Ben Woodburn and Nico Jones who have joined up with the Wales and Republic of Ireland Under 18’s respectively.

Speaking to the clubs official website, Sykes said: “I am always very proud to represent my country and I’m looking forward to it.”

Sykes hasn’t been a regular for Robinson this season but did score a late goal which sparked a come back as the U’s eventually beat Millwall in the second round of the Carabao Cup.

But now the transfer window has closed, the Northern Irishman could feature more for the U’s who may decide to loan him out in January.
