Oxford Target Forest Winger

Oxford United have expressed an interest in Nottingham Forest winger, Gboly Ariyibi, but face competition from Rotherham United, according to the Daily Mail.

Having arrived from Chesterfield in 2017, the 24-year-old has endured a tough time at the City Ground as is yet to make an appearance for the Championship side.

During his three years with Chesterfield, former U’s manager Michael Appleton expressed an interest in the former Southampton youth player, who he joined whilst spotted playing for Oxford youth side Quarry Rovers.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at SPL side Motherwell, where he made eighteen appearances and would have caught the attention of U’s boss Karl Robinson whilst scouting for two of his three summers signings, Alex Gorrin and Chris Cadden.

Prior to his loan north of the border, he spent time at Milton Keynes Dons where he netted seven goals in 28 appearances but was less successful during a loan spell at Northampton Town.

He would be a decent addition to Robinson’s side, and given the lack of transfer activity this summer it would give the fans a boost, too.

A similar player to Tariqe Fosu, the winger is quick and tricky for defenders and, given the imminent departure of Gavin Whyte, Ariyibi could slot straight into the team.
