Oxford United Sign Burnley Striker

Oxford United have bolstered their attacking options after former Burnley striker Dan Agyei joined the U’s. The forward arrives at the Kassam Stadium on a three year deal.

Despite being a free agent, as he is under 24 the U’s had to agree compensation with Burnley, who offered him a new contract at the end of last season.

He told the Oxford Mail: “I feel like now I’m about to kick-start my career and I’m really excited to see what’s going to happen. When I’ve been out on loan I’ve really enjoyed my time. I feel like it’s better to go and get regular men’s football than playing in the under 23s.”

The 22-year-old started his career with the AFC Wimbledon Under 21 side where he netted 35 goals. As a result, numerous Premier League clubs were interested in the youngster, but he opted for a move to The Clarets where he has only managed three appearances since 2015.

Agyei had spent time away on loan. He scored four from 16 at Coventry City, four from 18 at Walsall and failed to score in nine appearances at Blackpool.

The striker is Karl Robinson’s seventh signing of the summer following Alex Rodriguez Gorrin, Tariqe Fosu, Chris Cadden, Ben Woodburn, Anthony Forde and Elliott Moore to the club.
