Oxford United to Host West Ham in Carabao Cup

Oxford United will host Premier League opposition in the third round of the Carabao Cup for the second successive season as West Ham United visit the Kassam Stadium.

Last season, the U’s lost 3-0 to eventual winners Manchester City, so the U’s will be looking to go one further this year. It’s just the third time Oxford have reached the third round since 2002, and if Karl Robinson’s side manages to progress past the Hammers, it will be the first time in the fourth round since 1997.

The U’s last met West Ham in 2010, also in the League Cup, when the Hammers scored a late winner at Upton Park.

Oxford made it to the third round after a 4-2 penalty shootout win over Millwall on Tuesday night after the U’s scored two late goals to come back from 2-0 down. Robinson’s side edged past Peterborough United in the first round.

The Hammers progressed to the third round after a 2-0 win at Newport County.

The fixture is scheduled to take place in the week commencing September 23.

Elsewhere, Portsmouth host rivals Southampton, while Champions League winners Liverpool travel to MK Dons. Rochdale made the short trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United, while City travel to Preston North End.
