Oxford United To Sell Star Player

|

Oxford United have had a dismal summer during this transfer window, and if it isn’t for a lack of signings coming through the door at the Kassam Stadium, then it’s key figures leaving.

Cardiff City, who signed U’s defender Curtis Nelson after his contract expired, are close to adding another yellow to their ranks in the shape of sought after winger, Gavin Whyte,  as reported by Wales Online.

U’s boss Karl Robinson, who put a £4 million price tag on the Northern Ireland International, will reportedly see his star man leave for the Championship side in a deal worth half that estimation.

It was reported on Tuesday that Neil Warnock’s side were looking to bring the 23-year-old for around £1.5 million, and although Robinson nullified those claims, he admitted the winger had attracted interest from numerous clubs.

It’s a bitter blow for the club who missed out on another transfer target after former loanee Marcus Browne joined Middlesbrough.

Nelson’s departure and the return of six first-team loan players to their parent clubs have left the squad threadbare, and Robinson has only managed to bring in three new faces to the club, one of those came in the shape of a loan spell via another club.

If the deal goes through, the U’s need to invest that money immediately. The squad is depleted, with Under 23 players featuring heavily during the clubs pre-season so far.
