Oxford’s Top Scorer Pens New Deal

Oxford United midfielder James Henry has signed a new deal with the U’s. The 30-year-old has signed an improved two deal with the option of an extra year.

The 30-year-old has an integral part of Karl Robinson’s side since joining in 2017 under Pep Clotet.

The former Wolves, Millwall and Bolton man has been the clubs top scorer for the past two seasons and leads the way this year with eight goals in all competitions.

Although his contract was due to expire this summer, Henry was delighted that he could extend his stay with the U’s.

He told the Oxford Mail: “It was an easy decision because I have loved my time at Oxford and am really enjoying my football right now.

“It is a pleasure to come into work every day and over the last year or so we have played some very good football.

“But also the club is heading in the right direction in everything I see. I am still ambitious and want to win things, and I am pleased that the club see me as part of what they are building.”

Robinson added: “It’s fantastic news for us. It’s not just the goals that he scores, ‘Jamo’ is also selfless and will always play for the team, whatever role you ask him to play.

“He has the respect of everyone in the building and we see him as a key part of our plans for the next few seasons.

“It’s great to get this sorted nice and early as well and we look forward to him continuing to play a leading role for us this season and beyond.”

Henry will be part of the squad this weekend when the U’s face Rochdale, looking to extend their unbeaten run to ten games in all competitions.
