Preview: Carabao Cup – Oxford United vs West Ham United

|

Oxford United will be looking to go one further than last season when the U’s welcome West Ham United to the Kassam Stadium for the third round of the Carabao Cup.

Karl Robinson’s men lost to eventual winners Manchester City last season but will be looking to progress to the fourth round for the first time since 1997.

And it’s just the third time the U’s have reached the third round since 2002, but it will be a tricky tie for the 1986 winners.

Oxford thumped Lincoln City 6-0 at the weekend in what was a record away win in the Football League for the U’s, while the Hammers eased past a lacklustre Manchester United side at the London Stadium.

The U’s are unbeaten in three league games and have kept clean sheets in all of those games, while West Ham are unbeaten in six in all competitions following their opening day thrashing at the hands of Manchester City.

It’s likely Robinson will field a similar side to the one that started Saturday. Hat-trick hero Tariqe Fosu should remain, along with this back four which is yet to concede in three games.

West Ham, however, are likely to ring the changes, as they did for their second-round clash at Newport County, in the hope of reaching a cup final for the first time since 2006.

Predicted line-up: Simon Eastwood, Josh Ruffels, John Mousinho, Rob Dickie, Chris Cadden, Cameron Brannagan, Alex Rodriguez Gorrin, Tariqe Fosu, Ben Woodburn, James Henry, Jamie Mackie.

Prediction: Oxford United 1-1 West Ham United
