Preview: FA Cup – Oxford United vs Peterborough United

|

Oxford United return to cup action this weekend as they welcome Peterborough United in the first round of the FA Cup.

The two sides have already met once this season with Posh securing a 2-0 victory at London Road in League One. Darren Ferguson’s side are also top of the league with 25 points and just two losses in 11 games, while a third win of the season for Oxford against Rochdale lifted Karl Robinson’s side off the bottom with nine points from nine games.

The U’s welcomed Peterborough to Grenoble Road twice last season with both the league and Carabao Cup fixtures ending in 1-0 wins for Oxford.

There could be some squad rotation from both managers this weekend. Alex Rodriguez Gorrin, James Henry and Sean Clare are all carrying knocks but would be rested anyway. Jack Stevens could come in for Simon Eastwood in goal and there could a return for Sam Winnall upfront.

Posh are without young forward Ricky-Jade Jones due to injury, but Ferguson is likely to freshen up his side after saying he will make ‘wholesale alterations’ for the trip.

Predicted line-up: Jack Stevens, John Mousinho, Elliott Moore, Sam Long, Liam Kelly, Anthony Forde, Mark Sykes, Mide Shodipo, Dan Agyei, Sam Winnall.

Prediction: Oxford United 1-1 Peterborough United
