Preview: League One – Accrington Stanley vs Oxford United

|

Oxford United will be looking to secure their first league win of the season when they visit Accrington Stanley on Saturday.

So far, the U’s have lost at Lincoln and at home to Sunderland with both games ending 2-0, leaving them bottom in League One as a result. Karl Robinson’s side were also knocked out of the Carabao Cup last week with a penalty shootout defeat against Watford.

Accrington won their opening league game of the season against Peterborough United but lost at Burton Albion last time out – the same side that knocked them out of the League Cup.

As far as injuries go, it seems to be getting a little better for Oxford. Jamie Hanson will return to full training from Monday, but will miss the game along with John Mousinho, Josh Ruffels and Alex Rodriguez Gorrin.

Sam Winnall is still awaiting his first appearance since joining from Sheffield Wednesday, but Mark Sykes, Matty Taylor and Sean Clare all played a part against the Black Cats despite having slight knocks.

Striker Tariq Uwakwe has already scored four goals from three games, including a hat trick in the Football League Trophy. Dion Charles and Ryan Cassidy have also added two, as has defender Cameron Burgess.

Last season, the U’s drew 2-2 in this fixture but won the home game 3-0 just before lockdown. However, Stanley won the previous three meetings between the two sides.
