Preview: League One – Oxford United v Gillingham

|

Oxford United welcome Gillingham to Grenoble Road on Saturday with the U’s looking for a first win in four games.

Karl Robinson’s side played out a goalless draw at home against Wycombe with losses on the road to AFC Wimbledon and Cheltenham on either side.

As for Gillingham, they’ve struggled this season with just one win from their opening seven league games, with Steve Evans’ side losing 4-1 at home to MK Dons last time out.

Stuart O’Keefe is suspended following his dismissal against the Dons while Ryan Jackson, Dan Phillips and John Akinde are injury doubts.

Like James Henry, Vadaine Oliver is the Gills’ top goalscorer with four. Former Oxford United midfielder Alex MacDonald is yet to find the net but he has registered one assist.

Marcus McGuane has returned to training while Sam Winnall and Elliott Moore could return for the match, as should Cameron Brannagan who missed Saturday’s game at Cheltenham with a shoulder injury.

The U’s won this fixture 3-2 last season thanks to two late goals from Sam Long and have won the last five meetings at Grenoble Road against their Kent opponents.

Predicted line-up: Jack Stevens, Steve Seddon, Jordan Thorniley, Elliott Moore, Sam Long, Alex Rodriguez Gorrin, Cameron Brannagan, James Henry, Gavin Whyte, Mark Sykes, Matty Taylor.

Prediction: Oxford United 1-0 Gillingham
