Preview: League One – Oxford United vs Crewe Alexandra

|

Oxford United welcome Crewe Alexandra to Grenoble Road this Saturday. Both sides recorded their first league wins of the season last weekend following two defeats.

Having lost to Lincoln City and Sunderland, the U’s bounced back with a strong display and result at Accrington Stanley. Crewe, meanwhile, lost to newly relegated Charlton Athletic and Hull City before picking up all three points against MK Dons.

Matty Taylor opened his account with a terrific brace at Accrington, while James Henry also made one assist and added his first goal of the season.

Striker Mikael Mandron has three goals this season and opened the scoring against the Dons. Sought after defender Perry Ng is one to watch out for with the visitors looking strong at the back.

Karl Robinson’s depleted squad seems to be on the mend. Jamie Hanson, Alex Rodriguez Gorrin and Josh Ruffels all remain sidelined but are close to a return, with John Mousinho the only long-term absentee.

As for Crewe, Chris Porter is the only injury concern that looks likely to play.

There haven’t been too many meetings between these sides. Both teams have recorded six wins each, with five games ending level. Crewe did the double over the U’s when the sides last met in League Two back in 2011/12.

Predicted line-up: Simon Eastwood, Sam Long, Rob Atkinson, Elliott Moore, Sean ClareLiam KellyCameron Brannagan, Anthony Forde, Joel Cooper, James Henry, Matty Taylor.

Prediction: Oxford United 2-0 Crewe Alexandra
