Preview: League One – Oxford United vs Peterborough United

|

Oxford United will be looking to end their four-game winless run when the U’s welcome league leaders Peterborough United on Tuesday night.

Karl Robinson’s side have two draws and one loss from their last three league games, with the other result a 2-0 defeat in the Football League Trophy against Tranmere Rovers. The U’s have also managed just one goal in that run.

As for Peterborough, they have won their last six games in the league, with their last loss coming against Tranmere in the previous round of the Football League Trophy. The Posh are now top of the league by four points while the U’s are four points off the playoffs in ninth.

Posh have the best defence in the league, conceding just 26 goals from 30 games, while Oxford have conceded ten more. They are also deadly at the other end of the field and are the divisions second highest goalscoring side with 51.

Top scorer Jonson Clarke-Harris struck twice in the final ten minutes in their last win over Wigan to take his tally to 18 goals, scoring in seven successive games. Sammie Szmodics has netted nine times, while Siriki Dembélé and Jack Taylor have six and five respectively.

The U’s have found goals hard to come by in recent weeks. Top scorer Matty Taylor hasn’t scored since netting twice in a 2-0 win over Bristol Rovers in January, while the U’s have scored just ten goals in their eight February fixtures.

The U’s have lost four of their last six meetings against Peterborough, losing the last three. Oxford have won the last two home league fixtures but lost at Grenoble Road when the sides met in the FA Cup earlier this season.

Predicted line-up: Jack Stevens, Josh Ruffels, Rob Atkinson, Elliott Moore, Sam Long, Alex Rodriguez Gorrin, Cameron Brannagan, Mark Sykes, Brandon Barker, Elliot Lee, Matty Taylor.

Prediction: Oxford United 0-2 Peterborough United
