Preview: League One – Oxford United vs Shrewsbury Town

|

Oxford United return to Grenoble Road this weekend when the U’s welcome Shrewsbury Town in League One.

Karl Robinson’s side made club history with their FA Cup second-round win at Walsall as they extended their unbeaten run to sixteen games in all competitions – the clubs best ever in the Football League.

Oxford have won their last four league home games by a 3-0 scoreline, which was also the result in this fixture last season as the U’s celebrated their 125th anniversary.

The U’s also won the reverse fixture, with Gavin Whyte scoring a hat trick in Shropshire.

Like Oxford, the Shrews have also progressed to the third round of the FA Cup following a 2-0 win over Mansfield Town, but have lost two of their last four league games.

Oxford are without Alex Rodriguez Gorrin through suspension and Simon Eastwood through injury, but Jamie Hanson and Shandon Baptiste have returned from their injuries and could feature for the U’s. Following the injury to Eastwood, the U’s have snapped up Jordan Archer on a short term deal.

James Henry took his goal tally to double figures after netting the winner at Walsall, while Tariqe Fosu has eight, but hasn’t scored in five, and Matty Taylor has provided seven goals.

Josh Laurent is the opponent’s top goal-scorer with four while forward, Jason Cummings, has netted three.

Predicted line-up: Jordan Archer, Josh Ruffels, Rob Dickie, Elliott Moore, Chris Cadden, John Mousinho, Mark Sykes, James Henry, Tariqe Fosu, Anthony Forde, Matty Taylor.

Prediction: Oxford United 2-0 Shrewsbury Town.
