Oxford United travel to promotion rivals Peterborough United this weekend with the U’s looking to reestablish a play-off place.

However, Karl Robinson’s side played out 120 minutes against Premier League side Newcastle United on Tuesday night as the sides met in their FA Cup fourth-round replay, losing the game deep into extra time.

Those extra minutes could be the difference between the two sides with both sets of supporters looking for another three points.

Oxford secured their first league win of 2020 last weekend, a 2-1 victory over Blackpool, while Peterborough secured an emphatic 4-1 win at Ipswich last time out – their fourth successive win.

The Posh are five points clear of Oxford and sit 3rd in League One, but Karl Robinson’s side have already recorded two 1-0 victories against the opponents in the league and Carabao Cup.

Oxford have lost just once from the last ten meetings between the two sides, but Peterborough are the leagues highest-scoring team and have caused most sides plenty of problems.

Oxford have also been lethal in front of goal but they’ve dried up slightly since the end of 2019, largely due to injuries to key players.

One of those players is James Henry who had missed all of January. He returned against Blackpool but was rested against Newcastle with this game in mind, as the 30-year-old looks to add to his tally of eleven goals.

Matty Taylor and Cameron Brannagan have added 17 goals, and the pair could feature against the Posh, while Marcus Browne has scored three in six since returning to the club on loan from Middlesbrough.

Despite losing Marcus Maddison to Hull City – a source of 10 goals and eight assists – Mo Eisa and Ivan Toney have scored 15 and 21 respectively.

Predicted line-up: Simon Eastwood, Josh Ruffels, John Mousinho, Rob Dickie, Sam Long, Alex Rodriguez Gorrin, Cameron Brannagan, Mark Sykes, James Henry, Marcus Browne, Matty Taylor.

Prediction: Peterborough United 1-1 Oxford United
