Oxford United travel to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday as the U’s look to secure back to back wins. Karl Robinson’s side won 5-1 over Accrington on Tuesday night which was a first win in six games.

As for Wednesday, they are level on points with the U’s following a 2-1 win at Wigan on Tuesday. It was a first win in five league games which followed a strong start to the season of three wins and one draw.

The two sides may have matching records in the table but Oxford have scored six more than Wednesday but also conceded four more. Only three teams have scored fewer than the hosts this season but they also boast the joint best defence.

Lewis Gibson is an injury doubt for Wednesday but Massimo Luongo and Josh Windass could feature. For Oxford, Jamie Hanson and Marcus McGuane has both returned to training but there are concerns over Gavin Whyte and Jordan Thorniley.

Goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell has impressed while on loan from Burnley and has five clean sheets from nine matches. Wednesday also boast three former Oxford players. Defender Chey Dunkley has played four times, including in the win at Wigan, as did Marvin Johnson at left-back and he has found the net once from seven appearances. Mide Shodipo, who scored 12 times while on loan with the U’s, has turned out four times.

The two sides haven’t met since 2015 when Sheffield Wednesday won 1-0 in the league cup. In fact, the last three meetings have all been in the League Cup, with one draw and an Oxford win at the Manor ground in 1996.

Predicted line-up: Jack Stevens, Steve Seddon, Luke McNally, Elliott Moore, Sam Long, Alex Rodriguez Gorrin, Cameron Brannagan, Herbie Kane, Nathan Holland, Mark Sykes, Matty Taylor.

Prediction: Sheffield Wednesday 0-0 Oxford United
