Preview: League One – Oxford United vs Peterborough United

|

Oxford United’s first home game of the season takes place tomorrow as the U’s welcome Peterborough United to the Kassam Stadium.

The U’s secured a point on the road last weekend at Sunderland and will be looking to go one better in front of their home fans, whilst Posh will be looking to bounce back from their 3-1 home defeat against Fleetwood Town.

“Any side which has success at any level wins their home games.”

John Mousinho – Oxford Mail

Both sides will be in search for their first win of the new season, but the U’s will fancy themselves against Darren Ferguson’s side.

Tariqe Fosu netted the U’s goal at the Stadium of Light, while Ben Woodburn provided the assist and some real quality. Chris Cadden looked solid on the right, while Alex Rodriguez Gorrin and Cameron Brannagan were controlled in midfield.

Defender Rob Dickie, who had a goal ruled out in controversial circumstances, was sensational at the back, and the 23-year-old will be looking to put in another decent shift. Skipper John Mousinho played well at Sunderland, but he could be replaced for new signing Elliott Moore, who came on for the final few minutes at the Stadium of Light.

“We’re in a big week and then we’ve got Peterborough and then it’s Blackpool, who are having a right go as well.”

Karl Robinson – Oxford Mail

However, the opposition have some key players. Striker Ivan Toney, who netted in the Posh’s opening day defeat, and scored 16 goals in League One last season. New defensive signings Mark Beevers and Frankie Kent failed to gel in their opening fixture but will be looking to showcase a solid partnership.

George Boyd has made a return to the club after time in the Premier League, most recently with Burnley, while Marcus Maddison will certainly be a danger man. New signing Mo Eisa failed to hit the heights expected last season at Bristol City, but he’ll be in search of his first Posh goal.

Predicted line-up: Simon Eastwood, Josh Ruffels, Elliott Moore, Rob Dickie, Chris Cadden, Alex Rodriguez Gorrin, Cameron Brannagan, Tariqe Fosu, James Henry, Ben Woodburn, Jamie Mackie.

Prediction: Oxford United 2-1 Peterborough United
