Oxford United are closing in on Rangers winger Brandon Barker, according to reports from The Athletic.

The 24-year-old has made 13 appearances for Steven Gerrard’s side this season, scoring twice in the Scottish Premiership.

However, Rangers are looking to offload the former Manchester City man to bring in Aberdeen winger Scott Wright – a player the U’s were also interested in earlier this month.

Barker only made one appearance for City before loan spells at Rotherham United, NAC Breda, Hibernian and Preston North End.

He made just four appearances for the Millers before scoring twice in 23 outings in Holland. He also scored twice for Hibs from 30 appearances before adding another two while in the Championship at Preston.

He made 35 appearances for Manchester City’s U23 side, scoring nine times and adding six assists.

It has been no secret that U’s boss wants another winger, and the fact Barker is left-sided but comfortable on either flank ticks plenty of boxes for the manager.
